1930s CLOWN Pierrot Doll w Composition Shoulder Plate Head & Limbs 20”H
From an estate, here’s a wonderful 20” tall vintage 1930s doll dressed in a fanciful French “Pierrot” clown costume; stand is not included. The doll is composed of a hand painted composition shoulder plate head, filled (sawdust?) cloth torso and moveable composition limbs.
The arms and legs move at the shoulder & hip areas.  The finger of one hand is chipped in the nail area; both hands are intact, have minor wear and need cleaning as well. The pointed mid heel shoes are painted black with gold soles. The toe of one shoe is chipped revealing the white composition base.
The face features simple black strokes for the brows & lashes with pale blue eye shadow above its brown eyes. Crimson accents the lips, nostrils & eyes. The face shows some areas of wear but presents well despite needing a gentle cleaning.
The costume appears NOT to be original to the doll. Its flowing & voluminous green outfit has a 2 tier ruffled collar with pink pompom accents Double tiered ruffles decorate the sleeve bottoms and end of each pant leg. The green hat is firmly stuffed, decorated with pink & purple felt dots and gold over brown woven banding. A pink pompom embellishes the top.  The hat is glued to the head. The ruffles at the hands and feet are fixed/glued as well. The Ruffles at the collar were loose, allowing a portion of the shoulder plate, torso & composition arm to be viewed. Please see photo for same. The ruffles have been re-enforced and are taut now.The outfit  is in good condition, despite a missing felt dot on the hat; there is a pinhole  & a faint spot or two on the on the green outfit. It remains  a striking piece, displays well and would be a wonderful addition to any doll collection—especially for someone who loves clowns.
